"Our" world is filled with churches, at least in the United States of America in which we (the authors) are blessed by God to live. People who enter most of those churches and listen with their hearts will hear of God's love and provision for them, and they will learn how to build a fulfilling relationship with Him.
However, far more in our world never go to a church much less enter a Christian bookstore. As a popular Christian song puts it (in paraphrase): If we want to reach them with the Christian message, we must "go where they are!" That is exactly what Jesus Christ told His followers to do in the Great Commission (in paraphrase): Go where the lost are and tell them of Me1 (Mark 16:15). Go into the world, He commanded the Christian, where those who will otherwise never hear of His love and provision are, and tell them! It is not our job to save them -- only Jesus Christ can do that; but it is our job to tell them and tell them in a manner so they will hear.
That is what JM Hawks' The Gap Series is all about; it is not an attempt to convince anyone that there was a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, or that there was a creation on this planet we call Earth prior to the Adamic one. It is a way to get the message of God's love and provision for the lost to the world; i.e., to those who would never darken the door of a church or a Christian bookstore. It is the embodiment of the Great Commission in fictional writing -- the kind of books the lost in the world buy and read.
